City of Hobart
|
 |
Tasmania, the smallest of Australia's seven states, is an
island lying south of the south-east corner of the Australian
mainland. Hobart, Tasmania’s capital, has retained a
large number of Victorian and Georgian buildings and most
of these are recorded well in historical accounts available
in the museums and galleries which have an outstanding collection
of Colonial artworks. It’s the perfect first step for
exploration of the southern part of the island state. Hobart
blends heritage and lifestyle, scenery and culture. It’s
a place of mellow sandstone, al fresco cafes, art, music and
theatre. Graceful old trees shelter bright flowers in heritage
parkland.

Port
Arthur
Port Arthur is one of Australia's great tourism destinations.
Every building, every feature of Port Arthur Historic Site
has a story to tell.
Created with convict labour, the impressive architecture,
delightful gardens and chilling prison facilities survive
today for you to explore. Evening ghost tour a must! Port
Arthur Historic site is a compelling and dramatic reminder
of Australia’s convict past and the early settlement
of the colony of Van Dieman's Land, now Tasmania. Take a guided
walking tour of the historic convict site, with access to
over 30 restored buildings and ruins. Then cruise Carnarvon
Bay to the Isle of the Dead and wonder at the spectacle of
the Tasman Arch. Operates daily except Saturdays from 26 Dec
– 30 April and on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun from 01 May
– 24 Dec from 9am – 5pm. Port Arthur is Australia’s
premier historic site.

Salamanca
In the 1830s the stony slopes of Battery Point were quarried
away to build the wharf to the south of Sullivans Cove,
and warehouses of magnificently solid appearance were erected
to serve the ships docked there. Long since vacated, these
superb sandstone sandstone structures have happily found
new users as boutiques, craft studios, galleries, restaurants,
antique dealers and bookstores. on every Saturday morning,
the place is transformed by the arrival of an army of stallholders
offering wares of incredible variety.
A must for every visitor to Hobart!
Many historic b and b accomodations nearby in this, my favorite
area of Hobart. |

Freycinet
Freycinet Peninsula projects eastward from the Tasmanian mainland
and is mostly comprised of a National Park. It is a unique
and exciting wilderness containing a melting pot of natural
habitats. Craggy granite peaks thrust dramatically from the
ocean, overlooking sandy white beaches and crystal clear blue
water - a dramatic backdrop for an unusual variety of eco-systems
ranging from wetlands through heathlands, coastal dunes, dry
eucalypt forests to the underwater magic of these southern
temperate oceans. |
